French Horn Teacher and Musician for Hire

Ryan Ramey

Ryan Ramey is an accomplished french horn performer and educator whose work spans orchestral performance, chamber music, musical theater, and recording. He studied horn at California State University, Fresno and California State University, Northridge, and has continued his musical development through study with a number of accomplished horn players.

Ryan serves as principal horn of the Boston Civic Symphony, Concord Orchestra, and Gateway City Orchestra; is a member of the Central Mass Brass Quintet; and serves as Associate Principal/2nd Horn with the Firebird Pops Orchestra. Ryan is an active freelance musician throughout New England and regularly performs in the pit for musical theater productions throughout Massachusetts. He also assists the horn sections of orchestras throughout the region as needed. In addition to live performance, Ryan has been featured on portfolio recordings for emerging film composers and other artists.

Teaching is an important part of Ryan’s musical life. He enjoys sharing his love of the horn with the next generation and helping students develop both their technical skills and confidence as musicians. Ryan has taught at Thayer Conservatory and currently teaches through Ramey Music.

Ryan’s principal horn teachers have included Bill Lane, John Mason, David Krehbiel, James Winter, and David Hoover. He has also studied privately with Andrew Bain, Philip Myers, Denise Tryon, and Bruce Hudson. These experiences have given Ryan a broad foundation in both the performance and teaching of the horn.

Whether performing in an orchestra, chamber ensemble, musical theater pit, or recording studio, Ryan brings his experience and enthusiasm for the horn to every musical setting.
